Language Level Placement

Students have the following options for finding the correct language level placement:

• PLACEMENT TEST
  • You must take the placement test if you need placement in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese or Spanish
• PLACEMENT THROUGH ADVISING
  • Speak with an advisor
  • if you need placement in a language taught at UNC Charlotte other than Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese or Spanish in which you have previous experience
  • if you need placement in a language taught at UNC Charlotte other than Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese or Spanish in which you have taken courses in high school, see placement recommendations
  • if you have taken the placement test in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese or Spanish and have scored at the highest level possible
• CERTIFICATION OF PROFICIENCY PLACEMENT
  • Follow the Certification of Proficiency Process
  • By permission of a Language Advisor only
• AP & IB CREDIT & PLACEMENT
  • Explains AP and IB Exam scores and the equivalent language level placement/credit
• CLEP EXAM CREDIT & PLACEMENT
  • Explains CLEP Exam scores and the equivalent language level placement/credit
