What is the CLEP Exam:
- CLEP is the College Level Examination Program which gives college level credit
- Students can take a CLEP exam to receive credits at UNC Charlotte
- CLEP exams can be taken in German, French, and Spanish
- Credits granted for the CLEP exam are shown as transfer hours on the transcript
- Credits granted for CLEP exams are included in the hours completed toward a degree
Who can use a CLEP Exam for Credit and Placement:
- Students who have proficiency in a German, French or Spanish
- Students who wish to receive credit on their transcript in German, French or Spanish
- Student who wish to receive credits towards completion of their degrees
- Students who wish to place into 3000 level courses in German, French or Spanish
How do you receive CLEP Credits:
- Sign up to take a CLEP exam at the CLEP website
- After completion of the test, submit official test results to UNC Charlotte

French
Level 1 = score 50= 6 credits = FREN 1201, 1202 ► Register for FREN 2201
Level 2 = score 52 = 12 credits = FREN 1201, 1202, 2201, 2202 ► Register for FREN 3201
German
Level 1 = score 50= 6 credits = GERM 1201, 1202 ► Register for GERM 2201
Level 2 = score 63 = 12 credits = GERM 1201, 1202, 2201, 2202 ► Register for GERM 3201
Spanish
Level 1 = score 50= 8 credits = SPAN1201, 1202 ► Register for SPAN 2201
