Our Department Recognized with National Ranking

Diverse: Issues in Higher Education has placed the Department of Languages and Culture Studies at UNC Charlotte among the top schools for graduating undergraduate African American students.. Ranked as number two, this recognition is a testament to our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. As expressed in our Diversity Statement, “we affirm a commitment to access and equity through inclusive actions around complex ideas and issues pertaining to races and ethnicities…” This national recognition shows that the Department of Languages and Culture Studies continues to stand out for providing resources to underserved communities and promoting equity.

Additionally, our graduate programs stand out in the region for promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. According to the Graduate Program Director, more than 70% of our current students identify themselves as Hispanic or African American. Our faculty is highly diverse, coming from different parts of the world and representing many ethnicities and heritages. We continue to embrace diversity in all forms, creating a sense of belonging and offering students a safe space that they need to excel. This national recognition attests to our commitment to our students and to the Charlotte region.
