Dr. Johnson holds a Ph.D. in Hispanic Linguistics from the University of Georgia at Athens. His dissertation research deals with the use of evaluation and stancetaking as resources for gay identity construction in interaction. His main field of study is pragmatics, with specific interest in discourse analytical methods, discourse markers, pragmatic variation, and expression of deictic reference in interactive contexts. Other areas of interest that influence his work are queer linguistics, language attitudes (specifically towards inclusive language forms/lenguaje inclusivo), and historical linguistics.
