The Chinese Undergraduate Student Association (CUSA) held a Chinese New Year event on Thursday, February 26, at 6:00pm in the Lucas room in the Cone Center. There were lion dance performances, free food and various activities for participants to celebrate the year of the Horse.
Congratulations to Yukiko Yokono, Don Cross, Lorena Delgadillo and Susanne Cisneros for hosting the very successful 9th annual Poetry Slam. Students recited original poems, original Haikus and published poems. The winners of each category received wonderful prizes. Student organizations such as the German Club, French Club and Japanese Reading Club were present and showed off their profiles and invited students to their activities.
From the organizers: “The 9th Multi‑Language Poetry Slam was held on Thursday, February 26, at After Hours in the Cone Center. Fourteen performers shared their honest reflections through original poems or interpretations of well‑known works. The Poetry Slam Team is truly grateful for the support of our three judges, Adriana Medina, Anabel Aliaga‑Buchenau, and Saiya Larsen. We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to the Student Government Association, Charlotte Global, the German Club, French Club, and Japanese Reading Club, and of course, to the more than 40 audience members who joined us!”
Congratulations to Sandra Watts, who completed the American Association of Colleges & Universities synchronous training course “VALUE Assessment Accelerator.” VALUE stands for “Valid Assessment of Learning in Undergraduate Education.” These rigorously-validated rubrics are used both nationally and internationally to assess learning of 16 individual dimensions. This course provides the skills and knowledge to adapt or employ the rubrics, appropriately collect and analyze student data, generate reports on areas of interest, monitor quality and plan for improvement in courses and programs. She also presented “We’re All Adults Here: Reaching and Teaching Online Learners” at the 3rd annual Charlotte Symposium for Online Learning” (by invitation).
