Congratulations to Bianca Potrykus for hosting a successful German Campus Week “Back Germans – Afro-German Experience in Past and Present.

The second event was the screening of the 2017 documentary “Afro.Germany” and on Wednesday the third event was a lecture “My Grandfather Would Have Shot Me – A Black German’s Discovery of her Family’s Nazi Past” accompanied by a lively discussion about the complexities of Black German identity and Vergangenheitsbewältigung within German families. Part of the event was a screening of the animated short film “Holy Holocaust” by artist Noa Berman-Herzberg.

Congratulations to Mary LaMarca who led the French Club in the creation of Montgolfieres, a type of hot air balloon, invented by brothers, Joseph-Michel and Jacques-Étienne Montgolfier, in 1783. They turned out beautifully and we will display them in our department. This will be the inaugural display of a rotating student and club project exhibit.

Congratulations to the Japanese Studies program, which hosted the Study Abroad Report on Friday, September 19 at the LRC. Approximately 50 students and faculty participated. Representatives from nine study abroad programs in Japan shared their experiences through informative presentations, with beautiful photos of their fun and memorable moments abroad. The audience gained valuable insights from each presentation, and the majority of attendees stayed for the Q&A sessions afterward. We hope they will also attend the Study Abroad Fair on Wednesday, October 8 at the SAC, where they can meet faculty and representatives from affiliate provider programs who will be leading upcoming study abroad programs around the world.
