Congratulations to Jane Houston who is named the Inaugural Education Abroad Faculty Award Winner. Jane is being honored for her unwavering support of students interested in international experiences. She has served as the faculty director for the long-running France: French Culture and Civilization in Paris short-term education abroad program, and for the nearly four decades she has served our institution, she has been a consistent pillar of support for students interested in immersing themselves in a foreign culture – French or not. 

Please join us in celebrating Jane at the Award Ceremony on April 11 at 1:00 pm, Halton Reading Room, RSVP by the end of March. Read more about Jane and the award here

Congratulations to Allison Stedman for publishing the following two articles: “D’Aulnoy’s Histoire d’Hypolite: A Manifesto for the Subversive Power of Music.” Studies in Eighteenth-Century Culture, Volume 53, 2024, pp. 311-329 and Review of Making the Marvelous: Marie-Catherine d’Aulnoy, Henriette-Julie de Murat, and the Literary Representation of the Decorative Arts by Rori Bloom. Eighteenth-century Fiction 36 (1): 187-190. She also gave two presentations at the MLA in January 2024: “Representations of Medical Care in the Correspondence of Madame de Sévigné (1646-1696),” and “Pre-Cartesian Medical Theory and Practice in the Correspondance of Madame de Sévigné (1646-1696).”

Congratulations to Sandra Watts for being awarded a grant from the University Career Center to complete the University of Minnesota’s Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition (CARLA) summer workshop “Integrating Career Readiness Into Language Programs,” a Mini Grant from the Free Expression & Constructive Dialogue Task Force at UNC Charlotte in order to complete intergroup dialogue training, a Venture Fund Grant to complete the “Integrating Career Readiness Into Language Programs” Summer Institute with the Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition (CARLA) at the University of Minnesota. Sandra also received a grant from the UNC Charlotte Free Expression & Constructive Dialogue Task Force to complete the Intercultural Conflict Style Inventory Certificate Program. Finally, congratulations also for having been awarded a Career Collaborator award from the University Career Center and for her presentation at the in-person QM Connect national conference in November 2023 (“Equity by Design: The Student Experience Project Meets QM Standards”) being selected to be re-presented as part of the QM Quality in Action virtual spring conference. 

Congratulations to Ryan and Michèle for leading a successful Spring Break Study Abroad program to Martinique.
