Congratulations to David Boyd for being named runner up for the 2023 Great Sasakawa Foundation Translation Prize for two of his translations ALl the Lovers in the Night by Mieko Kawakami (co-translated with Sam Bett) and Weasels in the Attic by Hiroko Oyamada.

SEACS Conference
The annual SEACS (Southeastern Association of Cultural Studies) Conference will be hosted at UNC Charlotte. President Susanne Gomoluch invites you to attend the conference on Friday, February 16 and Saturday, February 17. Please find information as well as the program on the SEACS Website

Casa Della Cultura Italiana Scholarship Award Ceremony

You are cordially invited to this event! The Honorary Consul of Italy to the Carolinas, Professor Valentina Cecchi, and the Board of Directors of the Casa della Cultura Italiana-NC will be in attendance. We hope to see you there, February 20, 4:30-5:30 pm, 434 Mebane Hall (LRC)

Heritage Language Learning Symposium 

The 2024 Heritage Language Learning Symposium will promote a broad understanding of literacy practices and training for Latinx heritage speakers. It will bring together experts in the fields of bilingual education, with an emphasis on mixed classrooms. Thursday, Feb. 22, and Friday, Feb. 23, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Japanese Speech Contest 2024

The Japanese Studies Program presents the Japanese Speech Contest to be held on February 23, 2:30-4:00 pm in Fretwell 100. 

Mini Grants

The Free Expression & Constructive Dialogue Task Force is offering ten $1,000 mini-grants for the Spring 2024 semester. These funds are to be used by faculty to help promote free expression, constructive dialogue, and viewpoint diversity on campus. These funds could be used for items such as conference travel, classes/training, or other projects. All funds must be spent in accordance with University fiscal and procurement policies. Nomination for International Women’s Day
Nominate globally engaged students, faculty and staff who work for gender equity to be recognized at UNC Charlotte’s International Women’s Day celebration Wednesday, March 20. The 2024 International Women’s Day Nomination Form will close on February 29, 2024. Please join us on Wednesday, March 20 to celebrate and recognize women and their accomplishments.

Campus Master Plan Forum

Attend the Campus Master Plan Community Forum from 3:30 to 5:00 pm, Wednesday, Feb. 14, in the Popp Martin Student Union, Room 340 G-I, to hear updates and share your thoughts. Please find a feedback form on the bottom of the webpage. This is an opportunity to provide feedback on the campus plan, and share any concerns you may have for the future of the campus, including accessibility issues.

Inclusive Excellence Grants
Applications are open for 2024-25 Inclusive Excellence Grants. The submission deadline is Wednesday, March 13. If you apply, please consult with Carol about the budget.
